Tony Roi's Biography
Tony Roi, was born in Havana, Cuba. However, he spent his earlier years in Florida, and New Jersey, where he was exposed to many different cultures. He and his 3 sisters and 1 brother were reared in a Christian home. Their Christian values are still an important part of both his and his family's lives.
Tony has had a passion for all types of music since he was 5 years of age. He originally got his musical start in the school Glee Club at the age of 8. Throughout his high school years, his teachers encouraged and supported his musical aspirations. He put a band together and practiced in the basement of his home. Although his parents had other aspirations, Tony insisted on pursuing his music.
Later on Tony got a booking agent and spent 3 years in Georgia, 5 years in Florida including Daytona Beach, Key West, Bahamas, and the Caribbean Islands doing Rhythm & Blues. His early band names were Tony Roi & The Roman Knights and Tony Roi & the Florida T-Birds.
From '85 to '86 there was a comeback on the club scene of 50's and 60's music. Tony so much resembled Elvis that he was encouraged to do some Elvis Tributes. The response was tremendous. In 1986, Legends was doing their first concert tour at the Marco Polo in Miami. Tony was given numerous opportunities to audition for the Legends but he turned them down. John Stuart (an executive with Legends) flew in from Las Vegas and took Tony to the show at the Marco Polo, but Tony still declined. John then flew Tony to Las Vegas so they could attend the Legends Concert there with the special lighting and effects. Tony joined the Legends in Concert and was 3 times Best Singer in a Variety show and Best Act in '87, '88, and '89. He went on a world tour to Japan, Hong Kong, Germany, then to Atlantic City.
Tony then took a year off, living in Hawaii, touring military bases, and doing concerts while writing his own music and re-establishing "Tony Roi" the artist. He signed a recording contract with BMG in Germany for 1993-1999, flying back and forth from New Jersey to Germany recording.
Tony's appearances include; David Letterman, "All My Children," Regis & Kathy Lee, NBC Today Show, and also doubled for dancing and karate in the movie "Elvis and Me."
Tony is very active in charity events. He helps raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and "Relay for Life" Cancer Research.
Tony is a very private person off stage, and because of his Christian upbringing, his family comes first and career second. During the course of his career he was taught voice, piano, guitar, and percussion. He holds a Second Degree Black Belt in Kempo Karate. He is a movie fanatic, and his hobbies include reading, watching football, and boxing. To keep in shape for two shows a day, he runs, lifts weights, and does cardiovascular exercise. Tony currently resides in Branson, Missouri.
